Favre-Leuba Geneva Twin Power
Favre-Leuba Genève Twin Power
Founded in Le Locle in 1737, Favre-Leuba is one of the oldest surviving Watch brands in the world and is therefore older than Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, or Rolex. Today, the manufacture is known primarily among collectors, although throughout its long history it produced some of the most technically interesting calibers in Swiss watchmaking. One of them powers this understated vintage Watch: the legendary “Twin Power” caliber from the FL 250 family. It was introduced in 1962 and is a true insider tip among collectors.
What makes it special is that, instead of a single mainspring barrel, this in-house caliber has two parallel-connected mainspring barrels that act simultaneously on the center wheel. This construction is rare in watchmaking—most modern Watches with two mainspring barrels connect them in series to extend the power reserve. Favre-Leuba’s parallel arrangement, on the other hand, delivers more consistent torque to the gear train and therefore greater accuracy, particularly in slim calibers. For a brand that relied on its own movements relatively rarely, this caliber was a true statement.
The round stainless-steel case measures 32 mm in diameter and features the slim, elegant design language of the early and mid-1960s, with crisp, angular lugs. The deep-black dial features applied, polished baton indices with originally white tritium-filled tips, which now display a beautiful warm orange patina, Dauphine hands, and the understated “Favre-Leuba Genève” signature with its distinctive hourglass logo. The simply positioned “Twin Power” at 6 o’clock is the only indication of the technical special feature inside. The screw-down case back, signed “Waterproof” and embossed with the hourglass logo, is marked with reference number 81093.
