When the man who designed the Porsche 911 creates a watch, the result is an object of uncompromising functionality and timeless aesthetics. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche created the first titanium chronograph in watch history for IWC Schaffhausen in 1978 – a milestone that permanently changed the watch industry. The reference 3702 offered here is the further developed version of this pioneering model and combines the same design philosophy: an organically shaped titanium case without unnecessary elements, a completely black dial with white indices and hands for maximum readability, and the iconic red chronograph hand as the only color accent – a design feature that makes the watch instantly recognizable. The tachymeter scale on the outer dial ring, the day/date display at 3 o’clock, and the bi-compax layout with a 30-minute counter at 12 and running seconds at 6 make this watch a fully functional instrument on the wrist.

Inside works the proven automatic caliber Valjoux 7750 – a robust chronograph movement with cam switching and 44 hours power reserve, which has been regarded for decades as the workhorse of the Swiss watch industry. The titanium case is not only lighter than steel but also hypoallergenic and more scratch-resistant – qualities Ferdinand Alexander Porsche deliberately chose to create a timepiece that can be worn like a tool and almost forgotten on the wrist.

This example is in very good condition. The titanium case shows its typical matte surface with minimal signs of wear – the natural patina that titanium develops over time enhances the industrial character of the design. The dial is flawless: clean printing, intact luminous material (with warm, cream-colored patina), and a perfect tachymeter layout. The day and date display switches cleanly. The black leather strap is not original and shows clear signs of use; a replacement with an original IWC rubber strap or titanium bracelet would be a worthwhile upgrade.
