The Mido Ocean Star Datoday Chronometer is one of the most underrated Swiss vintage watches ever. What Mido achieved in the late 1960s and 1970s was remarkable: a COSC-certified chronometer movement in an elegantly proportioned dress watch case, at a price far below that of the major Geneva houses. The Datoday line was Mido's flagship, and this example impressively shows why.

The champagne-colored sunburst dial is a small work of art in itself. The twelve applied hour indices in a geometric cube design with black enamel decoration are a distinctive feature of the Datoday series and give the dial a three-dimensional depth that is unmatched in this price range. The applied Mido logo below 12 o'clock, the gold lettering "Ocean Star," "datoday," and "Chronometer Officially Certified," as well as the striking Dauphine hands with grooved texture complete the picture. Day and date are displayed at 3 o'clock in a gold-framed double window. The dial bears the marking "T-SWISS MADE-T" for tritium luminous material.

The case is PVD gold-coated (case back: "Swiss PVD Coated") and is in excellent condition – the gold plating is largely intact and even. The original Mido gold bracelet in President style with signed folding clasp fits snugly on the wrist and emphasizes the luxurious overall impression. Inside works an automatic chronometer movement that has passed the strict requirements of the official Swiss precision test. A piece that as a whole far exceeds its current market value – a classic "sleeper" for connoisseurs.
