Piaget Altiplano 9025 Lapis Lazuli

There are watches you wear. And there are watches you admire. The Piaget Altiplano Reference 9025 with lapis lazuli dial belongs to the rare pieces that demand both at the same time. The deep, rich blue of the natural lapis lazuli – a semi-precious stone revered since antiquity as a symbol of purity and preciousness – reveals a fascinating depth effect depending on the light, interspersed with fine natural inclusions that make each stone and thus each dial unique. In the 1960s and 1970s, Piaget was the driving force behind the use of gemstones on watch dials: malachite, tiger’s eye, onyx – and of course lapis lazuli, perhaps the most coveted among gemstone dials. The golden Roman numerals and golden dauphine hands blend in perfect harmony with the warm tone of the 18-carat yellow gold case.

The heart of this masterpiece is the legendary Piaget Caliber 9P – at its launch in 1957, the thinnest manual winding movement in the world, measuring just 2 mm in height. This slimness allowed Piaget to create a total case height of only about 5 mm even with a stone dial – a watchmaking achievement that still impresses today. On the wrist, the watch almost seems to disappear, while the lapis lazuli dial draws all eyes.

This example is in good condition for its age. The 18K gold case shows the usual fine scratches on the back, the bezel is clean. The lapis lazuli dial shows a few natural inclusions and minimal surface marks, which are normal for a natural stone of this age and part of its character – the stone is free of cracks or chips.
