Rolex Oysterquartz Datejust 17013
Rolex Oysterquartz Datejust 17013
The Rolex Oysterquartz Datejust with reference number 17013 is one of the most distinctive and underrated Watches from Geneva. Launched in response to the quartz crisis, Rolex took five years of development to bring the in-house caliber 5035 to production maturity – a thermocompensated, COSC-certified quartz movement that was technologically unparalleled. The striking tonneau case with sharp edges and integrated bracelet clearly bears the signature of the era when Gérald Genta redefined the world of sports Watches with the Royal Oak and Nautilus – and with this design icon, Rolex confidently followed suit.
On the wrist, the Oysterquartz makes a real statement. The 36 mm stainless steel case with a fluted yellow gold bezel appears more prominent than a classic Datejust due to its angular design. The champagne-colored dial with applied gold indices, framed by the typical Cyclops magnifying date window, warmly catches the light and gives the watch an unmistakably luxurious appearance despite its technical character. The ticking of the jumping seconds hand immediately reveals that this is no ordinary Rolex on the wrist.
This watch from the R-series (circa 1987/88) presents itself in an honest vintage condition with age-appropriate wear and micro-scratches on the case and bracelet – it is a witness to its generation. The dial is very clean with the original "Swiss T" signature, referring to the tritium-based luminous material used in production at the time. With a total production of less than 25,000 to 30,000 pieces over 25 years, the Oysterquartz Datejust is one of the rarest series models from Rolex – a technically fascinating collector’s piece with clear 70s DNA and a charm bonus that only a few Rolex references possess.
